Learning in Functional Environments (LIFE) Skills

LIFE Skills is a placement available for students who require specialized instruction in a self-contained classroom; while providing a least restrictive environment (LRE). Specialized instruction is provided in all content areas with focus on the students' area of need. The curriculum utilized in LIFE Skills classrooms is based on the state standards (TEKS) to support student independence and provide provisions, modifications, adaptations, and the individualization needed to fully educate students. Both formal and informal assessments are ongoing and are used for creating Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs). Monthly activities allow for learning to continue outside of the walls of the classroom and for generalization of skills.
